August is a busy time for the Public Service Commission, with several important briefings and regular meetings throughout the month. Below, you’ll find the current planned schedule for livestreamed hearings, briefings, and meetings, but please note that this is subject to change—you can follow us on Twitter (PSC and Utility Consumer) or Facebook (PSC and Utility Consumer) to get up-to-the-minute information and announcements regards delays and reschedulings.
August 6th: 10 a.m. in the Commission Hearing Room–“Bill Round-Up Programs” are a method to benefit the ratepaying public of the state. Essentially, consumers can sign up to have their utility bills rounded up to the nearest dollar; funds raised this way then pay utility bills and provide basic needs for the underserved and for those facing catastrophic circumstances. The Commission will be holding a workshop to explore the efficacy and feasibility of these programs in our state, and the discussion will be livestreamed to the public at this link.
August 7th: 10 a.m. in the Commission Hearing Room—if the Bill Round-Up discussion runs long, the Commission plans to continue it on the 7th. This meeting will also be broadcast at the SCETV link.
August 7th: 2 p.m. in the Commission Hearing Room–Each Wednesday, barring scheduling conflicts, the Commission hosts its Commission Business Meeting, during which Commissioners issue directives, make motions to determine outcomes, and discuss developments in our state’s utility economy in depth. You can watch these meetings live via the Commission’s partnership with SCETV at this link.
August 14th: Scheduled Commission Business Meeting (check social media for updates)
August 21st: 10 a.m. in the Commission Hearing Room—Rulemaking to govern the PSC’s rule for electronic service on the Docket Management System. The DMS is a powerful tool, and we’re constantly seeking ways to make it more relevant and accessible to those who need to use it for research. Tune in at this link as we talk about the impact of the Energy Freedom Act and recent changes made to the DMS.
